Standing feet sounds like one option. It is not.
A doll can use visible sole bolts, a harder boltless sole, hidden internal support, separate toe wires or toe bones, a movable arch, a foot-joint upgrade, or some combination of those things. Sellers often compress all of that into one checkbox because apparently ambiguity is a beloved retail feature.
The useful buyer question is not simply “does it stand?” It is “what exact foot system is installed on this exact body and revision, and what does the manufacturer actually permit me to do with it?”
Four different questions are hiding inside one label
When comparing a foot option, separate these layers:
- visible sole hardware: are bolts or pegs visible from underneath?
- load-support design: does weight transfer through bolts, a reinforced sole, an internal support, or another structure?
- toe/forefoot movement: fixed toes, wire toes, articulated toe bones, or a more complete foot-joint system?
- usage guidance: temporary posing, dressing, photography, supported storage, or something the manufacturer explicitly approves for longer standing?
If a listing only says standing feet, several of those fields may still be unknown.
Standing with visible bolts
Irontech currently describes a standing-with-bolts system where metal bolts are attached to the footplate and carry the doll’s weight. FANREAL separately offers Standing with bolts on current configurators. ZELEX currently describes bolt standing as three visible metal support points on the sole for selected product families.
Visible bolts can make the support method obvious, but they do not answer every practical question. Water exposure, corrosion protection, floor protection, and how long the manufacturer wants the doll left standing still require product-specific guidance.
DJP is deliberately not publishing a universal standing bolts are waterproof/not waterproof rule. The current evidence is not strong enough across manufacturers for that.
Boltless does not mean “nothing inside the foot”
Boltless systems usually describe the absence of visible sole bolts. That is an appearance and load-path description, not a promise that the foot contains no internal metal, pins, plate, or anchoring hardware.
Irontech currently describes a boltless system using harder foot material and warns that extended unsupported standing can still damage the sole. ZELEX describes boltless standing for selected lines using hidden internal support. A manufacturer-account explanation from Climax Doll also provides a useful control example where a no-visible-bolt foot can still use internal production pins.
That matters because a buyer comparing with bolts and without bolts may actually be comparing different support methods rather than metal versus no metal.
Hard feet are another separate layer
Hard feet usually means the outer foot/sole region is reinforced or made from a harder material than the surrounding body.
Irontech explicitly says its boltless option uses hardened foot material. FANREAL’s FAQ describes Standing without bolts (Hard feet) as harder feet designed to support body weight. STARPERY’s current product/configuration language also uses Standing Hard Feet or boltless variants on selected products.
A harder sole may support load better, but the tradeoff can include a firmer feel, transition lines where different softness zones meet, or manufacturer-specific limits on how long the foot should stay loaded.
Do not turn hard foot into safe permanent standing storage. Those are different claims.
Movable toes are not the same thing as standing feet
Toe motion is its own mechanical choice.
Current examples include:
- Irontech copper-wire toes;
- FANREAL movable toes and a separate foot-joint upgrade on selected bodies;
- ZELEX K-Series toe bones;
- STARPERY current products with toe-bone/arching-foot owner evidence on specific recent units.
FANREAL’s dedicated movable-foot page goes further, describing a newer system with arch/sole movement, forward/back/side foot movement, independently movable toes, and more detailed forefoot joints.
The practical lesson is simple: standing support, hard-foot material, toe articulation, and foot-joint articulation should be verified separately.
Revision matters more than the brand name
ZELEX is a good example of why version matters.
Its general Dolls Guide says SLE dolls use bolt standing, while ZELEX’s current technology history says SLE 3.0 introduced standing feet without bolts. That should be treated as a generation-scoped difference or documentation lag, not flattened into ZELEX uses bolts or ZELEX is boltless.
The same rule applies elsewhere. A current configurator is generally stronger current-availability evidence than an old options article, but even a configurator can contain copied compatibility text that needs body-specific confirmation.
Standing ability is not long-term storage permission
A manufacturer may support standing for posing, dressing, photography, or temporary storage while still recommending another method for long-duration storage.
Irontech explicitly warns that prolonged unsupported standing can damage its hardened boltless soles. ZELEX’s current guidance treats standing systems as aids while separately recommending suspended storage to remove load from the feet.

Water and shower guidance remains manufacturer-specific
There is seller guidance warning against bathing or immersing dolls with exposed standing bolts because water may enter around the hardware. That is not enough evidence for DJP to declare a universal rule across every manufacturer, seal design, skeleton material, or boltless system.
So the safe public rule is:
Do not infer water resistance from boltless, stainless, standing feet, or hard feet. Ask for the exact manufacturer’s water/shower guidance for your body and foot system.
Owner incidents are useful as failure modes, not failure rates
Current owner/resale records show that real foot systems can age differently. Some recent owners report very good short-term performance from hard/standing feet and toe structures. That does not establish a brand-wide lifetime result.
The site will use owner reports to illustrate what can happen on a specific unit, not manufacture a fake reliability percentage from forum anecdotes.
What to ask before ordering
The seller/manufacturer should be able to tell you:
- exact body and revision;
- whether the sole has visible bolts;
- whether boltless means hardened sole, hidden support, or another design;
- whether internal foot hardware is documented;
- whether toe movement uses wire, bones, or another system;
- whether a separate foot-joint upgrade is installed;
- how long the manufacturer permits standing;
- whether external support is recommended;
- what storage position the manufacturer recommends;
- the exact water/shower guidance for that foot system;
- whether your selected body/material is compatible with each option.
The buyer rule
Treat the foot as a small mechanical system, not one dropdown label.
Verify support method + outer foot construction + toe/forefoot mechanism + revision + usage guidance. That gives you something you can actually compare across listings without pretending every brand engineered the same foot because they all discovered the word standing.
